The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Zaria Area Command, has raise alarm over the increasing supply of illicit drugs in the area. The Zaria Area Commandant of the Agency, Jafar Salisu Muhammad at a one the awareness campaign on how to tackle substance abuse among women and youths organized by a non Governmental organisation Muslim Sisters of Nigeria, said recently the Command operatives has apprehended trucks loaded with illicit drugs worth millions of naira conveying the substance into Zaria from neighbouring states.
Mr Jafar Salisu while applauding the effort of the Muslims Women Association for the awareness campaign, called for collective effort in curbing the prevalence of the problem before its get out of hand.
He emphasised that the Command has since commenced a door to door sensitisation exercise in the zone.
The Area Commandant, warned people especially women and youths to avoid taking any substance dangerous to their health.
In a remark, the co-odinator of the Muslims Sisters association, Dr Mardiyya Muhammad, said the aim of embarking on the awareness campaign is to educate women on the dangers of substance abuse.
Dr Mardiyya expressed fear over the increasing percentage of women engaging in drug abuse which need to be tackled for the betterment of the society.
The co-odinator of the Muslims Women Association, enjoined parents, Government at all levels, Drug Law Enforcement Agencies, Traditional rulers, religions and community leaders and other non Governmental organisations to work hand in hand in finding lasting solution to eradicate the menace.
Some participants, believed that the effort by the association will go along way in reducing the problem, and promised to use what they have learn in their homes.N
