In an effort to boost tomatoes production in the state, Kaduna state ministry of Environment, forestry and natural resources in collaboration with a Non-Governmental Organization has distributed a solar-powered Tomatoes Drier machines for farmers in Dutse-Wai, Kubau local government area.
Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Commissioner, Alhaji Jafaru Ibrahim Sani said the move is part of the initiatives aimed at enhancing the agricultural sector for improved productivity.
He explained that, the new equipment will help the farmers in the areas of tomato processing and packaging to meet the global standard.
Also speaking, the National coordinator of the NGO, Dr Amun Moses, represented by his assistant Miss Hauwa Umaru, said the organization deemed it fit to provide the machines to Dutsen Wai Community in view of the fact that it is one of the largest producers of tomato not only in the state, but the country in general.
Commenting, the Chairman of Kubau local government council, Alhaji Bashir Suleiman Zuntu thanked the State Government and the Organization for choosing the local government for the gesture.
In an interview shortly after receiving the machines, some of the beneficiaries applauded the gesture, promising to utilize it judiciously.
