Traders in Sheikh Abubakar Gumi Market, Kaduna North Local government area have lamented over non evacuation of heaps refuse dumped at the market.

The traders who spoke to our Correspondent said the issue has slowed down business opportunities and put them at risk of diseases.

This is the refuse dumping site along Broadcasting Road by Yakubu Gowon Way in Sheikh Abubakar Gumi market is a sited People from nooks and crannies of the market are dumping their refuse.

Some of the traders, lamented that non evacuation of the refuse and random dumping by some persons were responsible for the heaps of refuse, and efforts made to get the government to intervene had not yielded any result.

They said the dumpsite has affected businesses and the health of individuals who reside and ply their goods in the area.

They further stressed that the presence of the refuse often deterred customers from patronizing her goods due to the bad odor emanating from the dirt.

They appealed to government to come their aid by evacuating the heaps refuse for smooth business activities in the area.

Commenting Mal. Abubakar Umar who is in charge of evacuation the refuse dumped site said has become a threat, saying, Lives have not been affected but individuals have contracted one or two illnesses due to the danger of the waste being dumped in the area.

Also, a Kaduna industrialist based in Czech Republic Engineer Abel Dangana who visited the market to buy commodities comment on the issue.

Engineer Abel Dangana advised kaduna state government to take measures by recycling the heaps of waste that were dumped in nooks and crannies of the state.

when contacted for comment, the Director Sanitation, Kaduna Capital territory Authority Dr. Umar Haira’u called on the traders to exercise patient as plans are on top gear to evacuate the refuse this week.
